Duration: Two-year program (2 semesters per year)

Required Hours: A total of 30 credit units.

Required Units: A total of 10 courses (7 core mandatory and 3 electives)

This program does not require internship or externship.

Master of Arts in Hindustani Music will provide a comprehensive and incremental approach to the theoretical language of music, supported by finer nuance to practical performance. Theoretical musical knowledge enhances and supports the student’s practical studies. At the end of this program students will be well equipped in all aspects that are important in the study of Hindustani music to take on higher educational and creative opportunities.

  • A Bachelor Degree
  • Five Years of prior experience in Hindustani Music

  • GHM 502: PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION AND DISCUSSION -1 (3 units)
  • GHM 503: MUSIC HISTORY (3 units)
  • GHM 504: PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION AND DISCUSSION – 2 (3 units)
  • GHM 505: CONCERT PERFORMANCE – 1 (3 units)
  • GHM 506: APPLIED THEORY (3 units)
  • GHM 507: NOTATION WRITING AND READING (3 units)
  • GHM 508: PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION AND DISCUSSION – 3 (3 units)
  • GHM 509: CONCERT PERFORMANCE – 2 (3 units)
  • GHM 510: THESIS (3 units)

Evaluation

The evaluation has the following components:

  • Final exams
  • Midterm exams
  • Assignments
  • A Thesis
  • An Oral Defense

Students will be awarded a degree in Master of Arts in Hindustani Music, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher based on the evaluation weightages across the various methods/metrics.
