Diploma in Kuchipudi Dance
Duration: One Year (2 semesters per year) .
This program does not require internship or externship.
The Diploma program seeks to instill both practical and theoretical knowledge in Kuchipudi dance repertoire. Students will learn complex movement phrases in different rhythmic measures, to gain expertise and proficiency to perform challenging aspects in Kuchipudi dance.
Admission Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Practical dance experience of at least 4 years, which will be determined by University Faculty screening or assessment.
Six Required Core Courses
- 301: History, Origin & development of Kuchipudi Dance – 3 credit units
- 302: Theatre artforms of Kuchipudi Dance Tradition – 3 credit units
- 303: Practical aspects of Kuchipudi Dance – 3 credit units
- 304: An Overview of Dance Treatises: Nrittaratnavali, Natyasastra and Abhinaya Darpana – 3 credit units
One Elective Courses
- 401: Practice of Talam – 3 credit units
- 402: Indigenous dance forms related to Kuchipudi – 3 credit units
Evaluation
The evaluation has the following components:
- Final exams
- Mid-term exams
- Assignments
- Quizzes
Students will be awarded the diploma after they earn an overall combined GPA of 2.0 based on the evaluation weightages across the various methods/metrics.
